Welcome to the Clodge Latin Course. Hmmmmm.

It is important at this point to meet the household that we will be following for as long as you keep up with the course.

You'll notice that each member of the household is accompanied by an English caption and a Latin caption. You may wish to read the Latin caption and make out you understand it, and then read the English caption so that you actually know what's going on. Also read the additional notes so that you aware of those things that it is suggested that you note.

Lucius est dominus.

Lucius is the master.

Melissa est uxor.

Melissa is the wife.

Felix est canis.

Felix is a dog.

feles est Pirata.

The cat is Pirata.

There are others, whom you'll meet later. Four's enough for now.

Things to note

• Proper names begin with a capital letter; sentences don't need to begin with a capital letter unless the first word happens to be a name.
• Do you want to know how to pronounce all these wonderful words? For now, guess; we'll return to pronunciation stuff later.
• There are no articles in Latin; when translating from Latin to English, add 'a','the' or whatever seems appropriate wherever they might fit the translation.

Learn these words!
